From Drill Core to 3D Geological Modelling

3D geological models are key components of mineral resource exploration, development, and extraction. Their use includes applications such as target generation, resource estimation, and geotechnical, hydrogeological, or geometallurgical studies. These models are largely based on drill core, with surface or geophysical data sometimes providing an additional piece of the puzzle.

This one-day workshop aims to introduce the audience to the different types of 3D geological models, the data required to build them, and the methodologies used to complete a digital 3D geological model. Particular attention will be given to the information collected along drill cores, as well as to best practices for maximizing its value. These data include core descriptions, structural and geochemical data, and core photographs. The main modelling approaches and their relevance according to specific needs will be presented.

The speakers will present both standard, industry-proven methods and innovative approaches using recent technologies through a series of modules including concrete examples and illustrations. The aim of this workshop is to provide the audience with the knowledge and tools needed to optimize data collection and interpretation for a project in preparation for the construction of a 3D geological model.
