Presentation of KPI Mining Solutions’ AI-Based Stochastic Optimization Project for Mine Planning and Performance Forecasting

Matheus Faria

Conference details

KPI Mining Solutions, in partnership with Groupe MISA under the Vortex Project, is advancing an AI-based approach to stochastic optimization for long-term mine planning and performance forecasting. Traditional planning methods often fail to fully capture the uncertainty inherent in geology, operations, and market conditions, resulting in production schedules that may be difficult to realize. The stochastic approach generates more reliable production schedules with a higher likelihood of being executed, while unlocking substantial NPV value for both operating mines and exploration projects.

Focusing on long-term horizons, the platform optimizes production strategies and resource allocation while accounting for geological variability and operational constraints. Forecasting performance and identifying potential bottlenecks enable strategic decision-making that maximizes economic value and enhances project resilience.

The presentation highlights real-world implementations in large open-pit mining complexes, providing practical insights and lessons learned. The collaboration combines KPI Mining Solutions’ expertise in stochastic mine planning with Groupe MISA’s technological capabilities, demonstrating how AI-enabled stochastic optimization can transform conventional long-term mine planning. Attendees will gain an understanding of how this approach improves performance predictability, reduces operational risk, and drives value across the mining value chain.

Conference details

Modern mines rely on data for safety, operations, maintenance, and more. A reliable network is the nervous system that ensures data flows and remains accessible for critical operations. Currently, the lack of network visibility causes IT teams to lose valuable time when resolving issues. LatenceTech will introduce concrete examples of how advanced analytics and AI help mines reduce downtime and improve safety.

Specifically, this presentation addresses the critical role of low-latency and high-reliability wireless connectivity in modern, automated mining operations, along with concrete examples of using AI in the management and optimization of private networks. Applications such as autonomous haulage, remote teleoperation of heavy machinery, and real-time sensor data acquisition for safety and production optimization rely heavily on predictable and stable network performance. We introduce a technical framework for network Quality of Service (QoS) assurance, fundamentally shifting from conventional reactive monitoring to a proactive, data-driven methodology.

The LatenceTech platform uses a continuous, high-fidelity data stream to accurately characterize the network and establish reliable performance metrics. This approach leverages advanced analytics and machine learning (ML) processing to transform raw data into actionable operational intelligence. For example, by generating performance forecasts and isolating critical anomalies, the system enables operators to implement preemptive mitigation strategies.
