Decarbonation in the Extraction and Beneficiation of Ore
Tuesday, November 18, 2025
Room 303AB – Corem
Decarbonation is a core concern of the mining industry. It greatly impacts the selection of mining projects development, and the selection of technologies used to develop and operate those projects. To achieve their ambitious carbon emission reduction targets towards 2030 and 2050, mining companies are making significant efforts to transform their existing and future operations. The aim of this session is to highlight these efforts by presenting completed and ongoing projects, as well as new technologies for achieving decarbonization targets. In particular, the introduction of new equipment and new circuits in mining operations, new technologies and approach integrated into new mining projects, and new technologies under development aimed at energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions will be presented.
This session will be available in both French and English.

Decarbonizing BC Mining: From Climate Challenge to Competitive Edge
Conference details
British Columbia’s mining sector is in a period of intense growth and opportunity. From the strategic expansions at HVC and Mt Polley to the development of major projects like Red Chris and Dome Mountain, and a foundational increase in impactful First Nations agreements, the province is buzzing. We see this momentum not just as economic progress, but as a critical moment to leverage deep decarbonization as a competitive advantage. .
Decarbonizing mining is a system-level challenge—individual mines simply cannot bear the burden alone. Success requires radical collaboration across the entire value chain: aligning energy providers, scaling cleantech innovators, supporting regulators, and ensuring co-development with Indigenous communities.
.
As an executive engineer with over 25 years’ experience in industry and an extensive knowledge of how to develop and commercialize new technologies, David Sanguinetti, Interim CEO at Foresight Canada, will take you on a tour of BC’s transition, using BC’s progress as a guide to map where innovation is needed most, and how this momentum can be scaled nationally and around the world. .
As Canada’s cleantech innovation broker, Foresight helps governments and industries find and implement the clean technologies their operations need to stay competitive and sustainable. Sanguinetti will share actionable insights from Foresight’s BC Net Zero Innovation Network Mining Working Group, illuminating the next-generation solutions and partnerships that are unlocking sustainable, electrified, and globally competitive futures for Canadian mining.
