The Scanning Electron Microscope: Operations and Applications in Geosciences

November 17 2025, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
(Offered only in French)

Workshop OrganizerRéjean Girard and Jonathan Tremblay (IOS Services Géoscientifiques)

The workshop intends to provide a broad overview of the scanning electron microscope and its range of applications in geoscience. The workshop is intended for exploration geologists, metallurgical engineers, environmental science specialists as well as academic researchers who want to familiarize themselves with the broad application of this versatile tool. It will encompass the theories and signal processing of the instrument, the imaging capacity (TEM, STEM, ES, BSE, CL, etc.), quantitative microanalysis (EDS, WDS), micro-diffraction (EBSD), elemental X-ray mapping, automation, mineral identification and quantification (ARTMin, TIMA, MLA, QEMSCAN), textural studies, automated petrography (ARTSection), geometallurgy, liberation analysis, rare phase detection, etc. Live demonstration will be available.
