After ten years of geological surveys, the MRNF’s efforts to map the little-explored region of the lac des Montagnes belt and the northern part of the Opatica Subprovince are coming to an end. This work has led to major revisions, corrections, and enhancements to the geological map of the region.
The integration of new lithological, structural, metamorphic, metallogenic, geochemical, and geochronological data acquired during these projects is enabling the development of a comprehensive regional synthesis, currently in progress. This synthesis will provide an opportunity to develop a tectonic model and better understand the metallogeny by incorporating both the new data and recent understandings of the tectonic processes that were active during the transition from the Mesoarchean to the Neoarchean.
This knowledge, combined with the growing experience of the industry, can now be applied to the characterization of new areas of interest and will help determine the best approach to upcoming mapping campaigns in the James Bay region.
