The VORTEX Journey, MISA’s IoT initiative, has created a critical mass of connected devices now available to the mining industry. This represents a significant step forward in setting Québec mining technologies apart. What have we learned from the experience? How can we accelerate the industry’s adoption of connectivity solutions? What new opportunities are emerging? What is the next technological “edge” we need to master to ensure the local and global reach of the technologies developed by innovative Québec SMEs? How can we realize the full potential of mining operational data? These are just some of the questions addressed in this series of talks hosted by MISA.

Setting the Stage – Autonomous Mining: The Quest Continues
Autonomous mining is no longer a distant vision. It is taking shape today through connectivity, embedded intelligence, data utilization and the progressive integration of technologies capable of transforming mining operations.
Through the Vortex Journey IoT Chapter, MISA and its ecosystem have helped build a critical mass of connected technologies now available to the mining industry. This marks an important milestone in the development and differentiation of Québec-made mining technologies. But it also raises a fundamental question: What frontier comes next?
This opening conference will explore the key lessons learned from this journey and the conditions required to accelerate technology adoption across mining operations. How can we better connect equipment, unlock the value of operational data and enable true operational intelligence? What technological capabilities must we master to keep advancing toward increasingly autonomous operations? And how can innovative solutions developed by Québec SMEs strengthen their position both at home and on international markets?
The quest for autonomous mining continues. It is now entering a new phase, one where connectivity, data and intelligence converge to drive meaningful improvements in mining performance.

Mission: Robotics – The Next Disruptive Technology
As connectivity, data and embedded intelligence continue to reshape mining operations, a new technological frontier is emerging: robotics.
Beyond the automation of isolated tasks, the rise of increasingly autonomous and adaptive robotic systems, capable of operating in complex environments, has the potential to transform mining operations at a much deeper level. Inspection, maintenance, material handling, work in hazardous areas and underground logistics are just some of the applications pushing the boundaries of what can be automated.
But what breakthroughs will enable robotics to become a truly disruptive force in mining? Which technological, operational and human challenges still need to be addressed? And how can Québec’s expertise and innovation ecosystem help bring the next generation of high-impact robotic solutions to market?
This session will explore robotics as a major next step in the evolution of mining technology and examine what it will take to move from experimentation and proof of concept to successful, large-scale deployment.
Data is everywhere across mining operations. Yet, its true value can still be difficult to see, interpret and, most importantly, turn into meaningful action.
As equipment becomes increasingly connected, systems grow more intelligent and operations generate ever greater volumes of information, a new challenge is emerging: how do we give tangible form to this invisible resource?
This session explores how data can be transformed into visual representations, models and decision-support tools that make mining operations easier to understand, anticipate and optimize. Digital twins, advanced visualization, simulation, artificial intelligence and immersive interfaces are opening new possibilities for seeing, understanding and acting on what was once difficult to observe.
How do we move from raw data to a shared understanding of operations? How can information be materialized to support better anticipation, faster decisions and more effective action? And which technologies will further bridge the gap between the physical and digital worlds?
Making the intangible tangible means turning data into understanding, and understanding into action.

From Data to Decision: Embedded Intelligence in Action
Mining operations now generate more data than ever. But the real value of that data lies not in how much is collected, but in how effectively it can be interpreted, contextualized, and turned into decisions, right where the action happens.
Embedded intelligence marks the next step in that evolution. By bringing analytical capabilities closer to equipment, systems, and operations, it shortens the path from detecting a situation to understanding it and acting on it.
This session explores the shift from raw data to operational intelligence capable of supporting real-time action. How can equipment better understand its environment? How can sensors, connectivity, artificial intelligence, and edge computing work together to enable faster, more precise, and increasingly autonomous decisions? And what new use cases become possible when intelligence moves closer to the field?
From data to decision, the challenge is no longer simply to gain better visibility into operations, but to give them the ability to understand, anticipate, and act.
