Rehabilitation and Restoration Plan: Best Practices and New Developments

1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Room 304AB

Regular rate: $50

Student rate: $20

Workshop Organizer: Sophie Turcotte, Sandra Trépanier, Élodie Lieber, Isabelle Lévesque, Katherine Donnelly-Laliberté and Jeanne Lavoie-Deraspe (MRNF)

This workshop, led by the team from the MRNF’s Direction de la restauration des sites miniers, will focus on current best practices for preparing a mine site rehabilitation and restoration plan (closure plan). Participants will learn about the legal framework and the requirements for drafting a closure plan. New and upcoming elements in the Guidelines for preparing mine closure plans in Quebec (the Guide) will be presented (i.e. climate change, monitoring and maintenance, geotechnical stability of accumulation areas and pits, cost estimates, revegetation, social and economic aspects, etc.). We will also discuss the elements that generate the most comments from analysts and that often delay the approval of restoration plans. Finally, we will take advantage of this workshop to answer any questions you may have. The workshop is aimed at anyone working in mine reclamation and who is involved in the process of planning, drafting and approving a closure plan.
