Laurent Guillou-Frottier

Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières

Dr. Laurent Guillou-Frottier obtained his PhD in geophysics at the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris in 1992, under the supervision of Pr. Claude Jaupart. He studied the thermal role of continents on mantle convection. He pursued postdoctoral studies at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, with Pr. Peter Olson, where he modeled the dynamics of subducted lithosphere. He then spent 3 years at UQAM, Montreal, with Pr. Jean-Claude Mareschal, where he studied the thermal regime of continental crust and paleoclimatic signatures present in temperature measurements of mining boreholes. Hired in 1997 at the French Geological Survey (BRGM), his work deals with deep geothermal systems as well as mineralizing processes, both implying hydrothermal convection.
