Jeremy Einish

Nation Naskapi de Kawawachikamach

Derek Einish was born on July 24, 1979, in Sept-Îles, Quebec, and raised in Kawawachikamach. Deeply connected to his homeland and community, Derek has dedicated much of his life to serving and protecting both the people and the land.

He began his career as a Wildlife Officer and later served as a Police Officer, roles that strengthened his commitment to environmental stewardship and community well-being. He also worked with Hydro as a Power Plant Operator for 14 years and manages a few family businesses alongside his wife, Annie Vollant Einish. Together, they are proud parents of four children.

In 2021, Derek went on to serve as a Council Member for the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach for three years, where his portfolio focused on Mining and Environmental Affairs.

As a land user and provider, Derek continues to live closely with the land—hunting, fishing, and feeding his family from the territory he calls home. His deep respect for traditional knowledge and sustainable development continues to guide his work and his perspective on responsible resource management in Northern Quebec.
