Gaël Bellenfant

Bureau de Recherche Géologique et Minière

Gaël is a geological engineer (specializing in geotechnics and the environment) with a PhD in waste storage (cover design and water balance). After several years in a consulting company (contaminated soils and waste management), he joined BRGM (French Geological Survey) in 2006 as a research engineer to pilot and contribute to research, public policies, and international projects on waste management. In 2011, he joined the BRGM’s Post-mining Department, where he took on a multidisciplinary role supporting teams responsible for the operational management of post-mining activities (monitoring and site works under the responsibility of the French State). Since 2014, he has coordinated research, public, and international projects across all areas of post-mining at BRGM, while maintaining his role as project manager (European projects). These projects cover the entire field of post-mining (environmental studies, geotechnics, hydrogeology, geochemistry, data management, etc.). He has been an ISO expert on post-mining (ISO/TC 82/SC7) since 2020.
