Frédéric-Georges Fontaine
Frédéric-Georges Fontaine began his independent academic career at the Chemistry department of Laval University in 2004. He is holding a Ph.D. in organometallic chemistry from University of Montreal and did an NSERC postdoctoral fellowship at University of California, Berkeley. His work on the reduction on CO2 reduction and on the functionalization of C-H bonds, has been published in some of the best journals, including Science and was selected among the 10 discoveries of 2015 by Québec Science and le Soleil. He has been a Canada Research Chair on Green Catalysis and Metal-Free Processes since 2018 and he is a strong advocate of green catalysis and metal-free techniques. His expertise in catalysis, both homogeneous and heterogeneous, as well as in catalyst design, underlines his commitment in finding sustainable approaches to chemical synthesis. In addition, he put an important emphasis on the quality of training in sustainable development, being director of the CREATE CIRCUIT center (Center for Innovation and Research on Carbon Utilization in Industrial Technologies) founded by NSERC, and of a microprogram in industrial sustainable development. His dedication to teaching was recognized by dozens of awards, including the prestigious Summa prize awarded by the Faculty of Science and Engineering of Laval University for his exceptional impact in teaching and training.
