Mining Project Stakeholders: Social Acceptability Strategy and Government Alignment

November 16 2026, 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
(Offered only in French)

Workshop Organizer: Sonia Molina (Casacom)

The mining sector holds a strategic position in the Quebec and Canadian economies. It operates in a demanding environment where social, environmental, and government expectations are high and interconnected.

In a context of increasing competition for access to public and private capital, there can be strong pressure to accelerate development in order to demonstrate a project’s viability. However, without rigorous planning and a nuanced understanding of stakeholder needs, social and reputational risks can jeopardize successful execution.

This workshop will involve a strategic reflection on social acceptability as a tool for risk management and institutional credibility. Casacom will present an integrated approach combining public affairs, ESG strategy, stakeholder analysis, and issue management to help project proponents build coherent, responsible projects that are aligned with community and government expectations.

Concepts covered:

  • Mapping stakeholders and analyzing their actual expectations
  • Understanding government evaluation criteria for funding and compliance
  • Integrating social acceptability into a project’s strategic planning process
  • Anticipating social and reputational issues to reduce risk and strengthen credibility

Participants will leave with:

  • A more strategic understanding of social acceptability
  • An enhanced ability to align project development with institutional and societal expectations
  • Concrete action paths to strengthen the coherence, transparency, and credibility of their approach
