Session organizer

First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Economic Development Commission

In recent years, First Nations involvement in renewable energy projects has been steadily increasing across Canada. In Quebec, through their involvement in hydroelectric and wind power projects, First Nations have developed an expertise that makes them key partners in the province’s energy transition.

This session will be offered in French and in English.

First Nations’ Position on Energy Transition

Ghislain Picard

Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador

Conference details

First Nations are not opposed to energy development, but it must be done in respect of their rights. For a long time, their territories were exploited without their consent, and without them even receiving a share of the benefits. Today, First Nations have positioned themselves to ensure that the past is not repeated. From now on, First Nations will play a key role in energy development, as they should always have.

2:00 p.m.
