Tommy Palliser
Tommy was born in Moose Factory, Ontario in 1975. He grew up in the community of Inukjuak, Quebec. Tommy has acquired a Social Sciences Diploma at John Abbott College and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Concordia University. After returning north from his studies, Tommy worked in Economic Development at the Kativik Regional Government as a Business Services Advisor. There, he assisted many small business start-ups and other economic development projects in the region of Nunavik from 2002 to 2016, including the creation of the Unaaq Men’s Association of Inukjuak, which he strongly believes in to support the cultural development of the youth in his community through various traditional skills training development. Tommy was also directly involved in the research and development of Canada’s northernmost mini-hydro project, which is 50% owned by the community of Inukjuak and the Innergex Corporation. He is presently the President of the Pituvik Landholding Corporation of Inukjuak.
His full-time employment is as the Executive Director of the Nunavik Marine Region Wildlife Board which overlooks the management of marine resources in close collaboration with the Inuit community and other partners in Nunavik. The management plans that the Nunavik Marine Region Wildlife Board manages include beluga, polar bears, seals and other marine resources in the Nunavik Marine Region.
