Simon Dumais

Simon Dumais, P.Eng., Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Mineral, Metallurgical, and Materials Engineering at Université Laval. An active member of the E4m research centre (where he leads Axis 2, Design of Mining Works and Operations), the Centre for Northern Studies (CEN) and the Institut nordique du Québec (INQ), he centres his research on cold-regions geotechnics, permafrost engineering and responsible mining development in northern environments.

He directs the Laboratoire en ingénierie du pergélisol et en géotechnique minière (PERMA-MINE) in support of the research program focused on permafrost mechanics, the hydromechanical behaviour of northern infrastructure and mining waste management. His major projects focus on the study of thaw consolidation, as well as the thermal and mechanical modelling of transportation infrastructures. His laboratory specializes in advanced geotechnical characterization and numerical modelling to ensure the sustainability of mining waste management structures on permafrost and in cold regions.
