Gervais Soucy, Ph.D. has been a full professor in the Department of Chemical and Biotechnological Engineering at the Université de Sherbrooke since 1992. He trained as a chemical engineer and is internationally recognized for his work on applications of thermal plasma technology. His work focuses on emerging metals, including lithium, magnesium, rare earths, vanadium and graphite. He has access to unique research facilities and expertise in chemical metallurgical processes in hydro, pyro and electrometallurgy. It also offers characterization equipment essential to the development, understanding and optimization of hydrometallurgical processes. Its areas of expertise include aluminum electrolysis, lithium hydrometallurgy, rare earths, magnesium, the Bayer process, thermal plasma-pyrometallurgy technologies, environmental technologies and project economic analysis.
