Francis Bougie

Université Laval

Francis Bougie, P.Eng., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Université Laval. An active member of both the E4m Research Centre and the Green Chemistry and Catalysis Centre (CCVC), his research is dedicated to driving the energy transition, sustainable development, and the circular economy.

Dr. Bougie leads a collaborative, multi-year research program focused on developing eco-efficient and green processes for recycling and reclaiming critical and strategic metals (CSMs). His key projects address the challenges of electronic waste (e-waste) management, with a specific focus on end-of-life clean technologies such as photovoltaic solar panels, LCD screens, fluorescent lamps, and LED technologies. His laboratory specializes in more sustainable processing methods. This includes green leaching using deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and biomass-derived organic acids, selective adsorption, and supercritical fluid extraction.
