Bertrand Rottier

Bertrand Rottier has been a professor at Université Laval (Canada) since 2019. He holds a degree in geological engineering as well as a master’s degree (M.Sc.) from the Institut Polytechnique LaSalle Beauvais, France (2012), and a Ph.D. from the University of Geneva, Switzerland (2017). In 2019, one of his publications received the Best Paper Award from the Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits (SGA), recognizing the most outstanding paper published in the Mineralium Deposita journal during the 2017–2018 period. In 2024, he received the Waldemar Lindgren Award from the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) and, in 2026, the William Harvey Gross Medal from the Mineral Deposits Division of the Geological Association of Canada.

His current research focuses on the study of various types of mineral resources (gold, copper, zinc, rare earths, graphite) at different scales, from the region to the deposit, to improve the identification of prospective zones for metal concentration. He also develops tools to evaluate metallogenic fertility and vectoring based on mineral chemistry applicable to different deposit types.
