Ali Jalbout

Mr. Jalbout obtained his doctorate in 2005 and his master’s degree in 2001 from the Université des Sciences et de la Technologie de Lille, France, eight years after completing his bachelor’s degree in geotechnical engineering at the University of Damascus, Syria.

Dr. Jalbout is an expert in rock mechanics. He has over 20 years’ experience in rock mechanics, underground tunnel construction and mining. In recent years, Ali has worked with international companies such as Vale, Newmont, Glencore, Freeport Mc Morin and, most recently, Iamgold.

Throughout his career, Dr. Jalbout has held various operational geotechnical responsibilities in challenging mining projects, such as DMLZ and GBC at the Grasberg complex in Indonesia, Nickel Rim South in Sudbury, and Westwood Mines in Quebec.

He is currently manager of the geotechnical department at the Westwood Mine. In addition, Ali consults on rock mechanics and provides geotechnical expertise to several mines in Canada and around the world.
