St\u00e9phane Tremblay is a forest engineer who graduated from Laval University (B.\u00a0Sc.,\u00a01990, and M.\u00a0Sc.,\u00a01996). His master\u2019s project was about the productivity of second-growth fir stands.<\/p>\r\n
From 1996 to 1999, he conducted research projects at Laval University, particularly on the development of density management guides for fir, black spruce and jack pine forests. Until 2006, he was also a lecturer at Laval University and a professor at C\u00e9gep de Sainte-Foy.<\/p>\r\n
In 2000, he was hired as a researcher in the silviculture and yield of natural forests team within the Direction de la recherche foresti\u00e8re. His research has been focused on silvicultural treatments applied to natural softwood forests, such as regeneration cuts or pre-commercial thinning, as well as the development of new treatments adapted to more complex stands such as irregular shelterwood system.<\/p>\r\n
By doing so, he developed an expertise in the management and production of natural coniferous stands. In addition, a project on the sugar bush management for the combined wood and sap production has enabled him to expand his body of knowledge.<\/p>\r\n
