Patrice Tardif is a mathematician who graduated from Laval University in 1988 (B.\u00a0Sc.). The same institution awarded him a master\u2019s degree in computer science (M.\u00a0Sc.,\u00a01992) and a Ph.\u00a0D. in electrical engineering (2006).<\/p>\r\n
He began his career at the Direction de la recherche foresti\u00e8re as an intern in 1987, then became a research professional in the biometrics team in 1989. At first, his scientific activities were mostly focused on modelling, forest growth and yield, dendrometry and dendrochronology. He designed several forest stand growth simulators and yield tables for the main commercial species at the time.<\/p>\r\n
He programmed the graphic, statistical and mathematical libraries required for the implementation of the Plantec\u00a0II governmental software project used to manage Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s forest nursery seedling production. He introduced embedded systems and microcontrollers such as Arduino in several scientific instrumentation projects.<\/p>\r\n
His areas of expertise also include data science, image processing, machine learning, neural networks and climate data applied to climate change studies.<\/p>\r\n
