Martin Perron is a biology graduate from the University of Sherbrooke (B. Sc., 1993). In 1999, he obtained a doctorate in forest science (Ph. D.) with a specialization in genetics from Laval University. He then did a postdoctoral internship in quantitative genetics at the Canadian Forest Service.<\/p>\r\n
Since 2001, he has been a researcher in forest genetics at the Direction de la recherche foresti\u00e8re and a lecturer for a course on genetic diversity and tree improvement at Laval University. He specializes in the genetic improvement of larch and spruce as well as in genomic selection. He works on evaluating the growth and adaptation of introduced and native wood species used in plantations (European and Japanese larches and their hybrids, tamarack, white spruce).<\/p>\r\n
He also studies the effect of genetic selection on wood quality and its maintenance in plantations, notably for black spruce and white spruce. In addition, he ensures the integration of genomics and quantitative genetics in the operational activities of genetic improvement of trees.<\/p>\r\n
