Rock Ouimet graduated in forest science from Laval University in 1983. In 1986, the University of New Brunswick awarded him a master\u2019s degree (M.\u00a0Sc.). He obtained his doctorate from Laval University (Ph.\u00a0D.,\u00a01995).<\/p>\r\n
Since the fall of 1988, he has worked at the Direction de la recherche foresti\u00e8re as a researcher at the Service de la g\u00e9n\u00e9tique, de la reproduction et de l\u2019\u00e9cologie. He contributed to the federal-provincial program to fight against sugar maple decline and dieback from 1989 to 1993, and since then has carried out research projects on forest nutrition and health.<\/p>\r\n
Since 1994, he is in charge of the Forest Study and Monitoring network (R\u00e9seau d\u2019\u00e9tude et de surveillance des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes forestiers \u2013 R\u00c9SEF) and participates to the study of the biogeochemical cycle in three experimental watersheds.<\/p>\r\n
Since he is specialized in forest soils, he also works on assessing the critical loads of forest soils in relation to logging, residual biomass harvesting, climate change, and pollutants transported over long distances.<\/p>\r\n
