Marie-Jos\u00e9e Mottet is a forest engineer who graduated from Laval University in 1983 (B.\u00a0Sc.). In 1991, she was awarded a master\u2019s degree in science (M.\u00a0Sc.) from the same institution.<\/p>\r\n
In 1985, she started working for the Service de protection contre les insectes et maladies at the minist\u00e8re des Ressources naturelles. From 1987 until her retirement in 2021, she worked for the Direction de la recherche foresti\u00e8re, where she began her research on the selection of disease-resistant hybrid poplars as part of the forest genetics team.<\/p>\r\n
Later, she became co-manager of the genetic improvement projects for both white spruce and Norway spruce. She took part in research on the quality of Norway spruce wood as well as on the dynamics of the natural regeneration of this species in plantations.<\/p>\r\n
She also collaborated to research on genomic selection for growth criteria, wood quality and resistance to the white pine weevil, in addition to having undertaken work on genetic improvement of white pine with the goal of maximizing this species\u2019 growth and adaptation to future climate.<\/p>\r\n
