Pierre Grondin is a forest engineering graduate from Laval University (B.\u00a0Sc.,\u00a01976, M.\u00a0Sc.,\u00a01978). From 1978 to 1987, he carried out various projects related to forest ecology for a company specializing in the environment. These experiments led him to work in a wide range of ecosystems (forests, peat bogs, etc.) and in several regions of Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\r\n

In 1987, he joined the Direction de la recherche foresti\u00e8re as a researcher in forest ecology. For several years, he participated in the development of Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s ecological land classification hierarchical system. He focuses on the transfer of knowledge to practitioners. In parallel, he carries out various projects aimed at better understanding the dynamics of Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s ecosystems. Pursuing his interest in ecological classification, he conducted several projects using numerical ecology.<\/p>\r\n

In line with this, he obtained a doctorate from the University of Qu\u00e9bec at Montr\u00e9al (UQAM) in 2014. Since then, he has studied the evolution of forest landscapes by combining knowledge of contemporary (composition, structure) and past (multi-millennial scale) vegetation to better anticipate future conditions. He supervises several graduate students and is an active member of the International Research Network (INR) on Cold Forests.<\/p>\r\n
