General provisions applicable to bridges or culverts<\/p>\n<h1>Section 95<\/h1>\n<p>The embankments of a road that crosses a watercourse must be stabilized between the banks up to above the conduit or the arch, during the construction, improvement or repair of the road, with a geotextile membrane covered with riprap or a retaining wall. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/drapeau-texte.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"disposition\">\n<h2>1<\/h2>\n<h4>Objectives<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>To preserve the integrity of an aquatic, wetland or riparian environment<\/li>\n<li>To avoid carrying sediment into an aquatic, wetland or riparian environment<\/li>\n<li>To ensure the lifespan of a road, bridge or culvert<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Art095A_anglais-web.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Stabilization of the embankment of a road that crosses a watercourse\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Art095A_anglais-web.jpg\" alt=\"Stabilization of the embankment of a road that crosses a watercourse\" width=\"380\" height=\"285\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Figure 95A<\/span> Stabilization of the embankment of a road that crosses a watercourse<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The slope of the embankments located between the banks and above the conduit or the arch and the slope of the embankment located within 20 m of the watercourse, measured from the upper limit of the bank, must be reduced to a ration of 1 (V):1.5 (H) and the embankment must be stabilized using the usual techniques, such as those referred to in the second paragraph of <a href=\"\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-v\/section-73\/\">section 73<\/a>. The reduction of the slope is not required if the embankment is stabilized with a geotextile membrane covered with riprap or a retaining wall. <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/drapeau-texte.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"disposition\">\n<h2>2<\/h2>\n<h4>Objectives<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>To preserve the integrity of an aquatic, wetland or riparian environment<\/li>\n<li>To avoid carrying sediment into an aquatic, wetland or riparian environment<\/li>\n<li>To ensure the lifespan of a road, bridge or culvert<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Additional information<\/h4>\n<p>The techniques indicated in <a href=\"\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-v\/section-73\/\">section 73<\/a> are stabilization with vegetation, riprap and the construction of a retaining wall.
