The person must also ensure that the coffer dams and the piers installed in a watercourse frequented by salmonids are composed of clean materials, free from fine particles less than 5 mm, except if mitigation measures limiting the carrying of sediments are applied. The purpose of the measures is to preserve the attributes of the habitats present, such as spawning grounds. \"\"<\/p>\n

    Explanations<\/h4>\n

    The materials used to construct coffer dams and piers in watercourses frequented by salmonids must be clean and free from fine particles of less than 5 mm. The use of this type of material is recommended. When the materials do not satisfy these criteria, mitigation measures must be applied to limit the carrying of sediments into the watercourse, so as to preserve the attributes of the habitats present, such as spawning grounds. A mitigation measure may include confining fine particles of less than 5 mm in coffer dams and piers using a filter cloth or waterproof membrane.<\/p>\n

    A watercourse used by salmonid may host one or more of the following species: lake whitefish, brook trout, ouananiche, Atlantic salmon and lake trout.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
