White-tailed deer yards<\/p>\n<h1>Section 52<\/h1>\n<p>A strip of woodland at least 60 m wide and at least 7 m high linking a white-tailed deer yard to the residual forest must be preserved and kept in place until the adjacent stands have reached an average height of 7 m.<\/p>\n<p>No forest development activity may be carried out in that strip of woodland.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/drapeau-texte.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"18\" height=\"18\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"disposition\">\n<h2>1<\/h2>\n<h4>Objective<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>To allow wildlife to move around by maintaining connectivity between its habitat and the neighbouring residual forest<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Additional information<\/h4>\n<p>It is important to note that the definition of the term \u201cforest development activity\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-i\/section-2\/\">section 2<\/a> of the Regulation means that the standards set out in sections <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-ii\/section-3\/\">3<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-ii\/section-5\/\">5<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-ii\/section-19\/\">19 to 22<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-iv\/section-47\/\">47<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-iv\/section-50\/\">50<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-iv\/section-52\/\">52<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-iv\/section-54\/\">54<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-iv\/section-55\/\">55<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-iv\/section-57\/\">57<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-iv\/section-59\/\">59<\/a> do not apply to the repair, maintenance or closure of forest roads or to the control of fires, insect epidemics and cryptogamic diseases.<\/p>\n<p>It should also be noted that <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-iv\/section-53\/\">section 53<\/a> of this Regulation allows the holder of a forestry permit issued for public utility purposes not to apply the conditions set out in this section. <a href=\"https:\/\/mrnf.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/RADF\/guide\/chapter-iv\/section-53\/\">Section 53<\/a> clarifies the conditions of authorization.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Art052_anglais-web.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Strips of woodland connecting a white-tailed deer yard to the residual forest or separating two areas of total cutting in softwood and softwood-dominant mixed stands within a white-tailed deer yard\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Art052_anglais-web.jpg\" alt=\"Strips of woodland connecting a white-tailed deer yard to the residual forest or separating two areas of total cutting in softwood and softwood-dominant mixed stands within a white-tailed deer yard\" width=\"380\" height=\"285\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Figure 52<\/span> Strips of woodland connecting a white-tailed deer yard to the residual forest or separating two areas of total cutting in softwood and softwood-dominant mixed stands within a white-tailed deer yard<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In softwood and softwood-dominant mixed stands within a white-tailed deer yard, a strip of woodland at least 60 m wide must be preserved and kept in place between 2 areas of total cutting until the dominant forest cover in those cutting areas has reached an average height of 7 m.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/drapeau-texte.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"18\" height=\"18\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"disposition\">\n<h2>2<\/h2>\n<h4>Objective<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>To allow wildlife to move around by maintaining connectivity between its habitat and the neighbouring residual forest<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Additional information<\/h4>\n<p>The term \u201cwhite-tailed deer yard\u201d refers to an area where white-tailed deer gather in winter. The terms \u201cconcentration area\u201d and \u201cwintering area\u201d (\u201cravage\u201d in French) are also commonly used to refer to a white-tailed deer yard. If the white-tailed deer population is to be maintained in Qu\u00e9bec, access to good quality wintering areas is essential. The <a title=\"This link opens a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn-contenu.quebec.ca\/cdn-contenu\/faune\/documents\/habitats\/amenagement-ravages-cerfs-virginie.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guide d\u2019am\u00e9nagement des ravages de cerf de Virginie<\/a>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/lien_externe.png\" alt=\"This link opens a new window\" \/> (available in French) was prepared to help forest managers improve the quality of white-tailed deer winter habitats when drawing up development plans in deer yards.
